Original limited edition hand carved lino design, hand printed onto beautiful textured, handmade nettle infused recycled paper made by the artist.
What are your favourite things to forage? Do you know much about local native bush foods around your home? About the origins of the many plants that you commune with everyday either in your kitchen or as medicine or as fibre?
Living with gratitude and respect on stolen land here on Bandjalang country in northern NSW Australia, with a mixed bag of mainly European bloodlines, I am always imagining the histories of the plants that I interact with every day. Their relationships to the original peoples or their journeys from other lands, the stories they tell that mirror the history of this place.... and many other places…
I am learning more everyday and my new work 'Forager' is a moment caught in time of this personal and collective journey of learning surrounding the relationships to, and the histories of, the plants that grow near us and that nourish us.
This print shows indigenous rainforest species lilli pillis, native raspberries and lemon Myrtle being gathered alongside introduced nettles-originally native to Europe, temperate Asia and Western north Africa, dandelion roots - native to Eurasia, gooseberries - native to parts of Europe and Western Asia and King stropharia mushrooms - native to Europe and North America.
